Taking a day trip to Uruguay from Buenos Aires

Jill Bowdery, Reading the Book Travel: I'm Jill, and I'm a British blogger who has been travelling for two decades, visiting more than 70 countries on 6 continents. I love to travel both solo and with groups, and to discover the cultures and peoples of the countries I visit. And I love to share a good story or two along the way!

  • "Firstly, I have always enjoyed poring over maps." I have a friend who absolutely obsesses over this. One day I caught a glimpse and well, a glimpse turned to a few.

And the stamps. It's so satisfying to hear that thump of the stamp to see a for of ink marking the country. With every country, curiosity comes to what it may look like. For Ukraine, I had a stamp with a car and one with a train on it, noting the mode of transport.

    The pictures look lovely!

    • Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one with the maps! And I totally agree about the passport stamps. Sounds like I need to visit Ukraine - however, I particularly liked the Uruguay one as it happens!

  • I was lucky enough to go to Uruguay a few years back, and to visit Colonia de Sacrament. A very pretty little place. I have some lovely pictures from there I must dig them out :)

  • I'd love to visit Urugauy. Ideally, I'd try to combine it with a trip to Brazil and Argentina. The thing is finding cheap and convenient flights. In any case, I enjoyed the post. I think that Buenos Aires is far nicer than the docks that you speak about. In fact, it's known as a city that turns its back to the river, unlike places like New York, Paris or London that celebrate theirs.

    • Oh, I couldn't agree more! I loved Buenos Aires - but the riverfront isn't its biggest selling point! They've been doing up the docks slowly but surely though, at least the Puerto Madero section nearer the city centre. Hope you make it to Uruguay one day - I definitely want to go back!
